Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Job Summary

The Research Associate will perform data analysis of RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics results obtained from human and mouse tissues using ENCODE standardized software; bioinformatic analysis using the Gene Ontology (GO) terms, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways and Reactome pathways databases; DNA/RNA/protein extraction and quantification by PCR and Western Blot; and tissue collection and histological analysis. This position will also assist with mouse colony management, breeding, inventory update, and genotyping.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Integrative data analysis of RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics
  • Molecular biology experiments: Western blot, qRT-PCR
  • Tissue sectioning and histology
  • Mouse management and genotyping

Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory or clinical trial research; OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with RNA sequencing, cell culture, mouse tissue collection, and molecular and cellular techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Knowledge of cell culture, mouse tissue collection and molecular and cellular techniques.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to work independently with only general supervision. Ability to complete work and meet deadlines.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: R14

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
