Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s BA in Music Program and Division of Composition, Musicology, and Theory seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Music Studies who will serve as the Director of the BA Program in Music, beginning in August 2024. Applicants with disciplinary foundations in musicology or ethnomusicology are invited to apply. Salary will be commensurate with credentials within college guidelines. Initial appointment is three years and faculty member is then eligible for reappointment. CCM offers MM and PhD degrees in musicology and music theory, along with BM, MM, and DMA degrees in composition. Candidates will teach students from a range of performance specialties and subdisciplines. The BA in Music program is composed of approximately 40 students, 7 full-time and adjunct faculty, and staff. The courses in the BA program provide a gateway to careers in music and allied fields, including music promotions, arts administration, music therapy, journalism, ethnomusicology, musicology, music theory, composition, songwriting, commercial music production, and library science.

Essential Functions
The candidate will:

Serve as the Director of the BA Program in Music, with a dual teaching appointment within the Divisions of Composition, Musicology, and Theory (CMT) and General Studies.
Lead the BA in Music Program by coordinating the BA curriculum, engaging in long-term strategic planning and promotion, organizing recruitment efforts, and administering the program budget.
Advise students on degree requirements and Senior Capstone projects.
Teach core BA Music and General Studies courses. BA Music courses include but are not limited to: undergraduate core courses and graduate topics courses in musicology and/or ethnomusicology, and the culminating Capstone course in the BA Program in Music. General studies courses include but are not limited to: Aural Skills and Music Fundamentals, Introduction to Music Studies, Critical Listening, and Music in Contemporary America. The normal teaching load is 2+2; these responsibilities will be divided evenly between CMT and General Studies.
Participate in active service initiatives, including curriculum development, recruitment, and student advising.
Contribute to their discipline through published research, professional lectures, and presentations. All tenure-track faculty must pursue an active research agenda and professional development within their field.
Contribute to the division, college, and university through participation on faculty committees, such as but not limited to the Thesis and Research Committee, Academic Council, and academic search committees.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of the appointment, the successful candidate must:

Hold a PhD in musicology or ethnomusicology or a closely related field.
Have at least one research publication in a peer-reviewed journal OR at least one research presentation at a national or international academic conference.
Have at least two academic years of college-level teaching experience.
