Job Summary
Patient care in the Division of General Surgery, Foregut/Bariatric Surgery Service.

The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse practitioner) role in the Division of General Surgery provides care to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic and hospital unit. Individual will provide care for Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery patients as a part of the Comprehensive Weight Management Program. Responsibilities will include participating in preoperative and postoperative care in the outpatient setting as well as inpatient postoperative management. The Foregut/Bariatric Surgery service currently consists of 4 Attending Surgeons and 3 APCs. Incredible health care and retirement benefits. This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.

Responsibilities
Independent outpatient surgery clinic 2-3 days/week.
Inpatient rounding, post-operative care, and hospital discharges.
Assist in the operating room as needed—current estimated need is 1-3 days a month.
Cover consultations from the emergency department or other hospital services.
Treatment of vitamin and nutrient deficiencies.
Provide dietary and lifestyle education to promote weight loss.
Respond to outpatient messages and telephone calls.
Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
Assist in the collection for research projects.
Participate in special projects and committee functions including team meetings and education conferences.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
