Summary

The Associate Director of Foundation Relations reports directly to the Director of Foundation Relations and is responsible for supporting the development, evaluation, implementation, and reporting for a portfolio consisting of regional, national, and international foundations. This person will help implement strategies in identification, cultivation and solicitations of foundations, conduct prospect research, and prepare and deliver timely stewardship reporting. The Associate Director of Foundation Relations will also support and assist major gift officers in their work with foundations and will provide all supporting materials required for evaluation, solicitation, and stewardship of these vital relationships.

 

Hybrid. Some travel may be required.

 

Internal title:  Senior Development Associate I; working title is Associate Director of Foundation Relations.

Job Duties

  • Individually accountable for fundraising productivity, donor engagement and cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. The expectation will be that with a mature portfolio, this position will solicit $2M per year, and secure a minimum of $1M per year.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for foundation partners, fostering positive and long-term relationships.
  • Perform Foundation Grant program targeting through the identification of private sector grant funding prospects and the development and preparation of grant submissions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and leadership to understand institutional needs and develop funding opportunities that resonate with foundation partners.
  • Perform detailed foundation prospect research on a variety of industry topics, as directed by the Director of Foundation Relations and Senior Executive Director of Foundation Relations, to build targeted prospect lists for priority areas and/or faculty.
  • Participate in off-site/in-person external foundation conversations as appropriate. This may occasionally result in working events after hours and attending events/symposiums led by the office of philanthropy.
  • Document all donor related activities using donor database. This includes a detailed action plan for each prospect.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in foundation relations or similar experience, with proven results in securing grants.
  • Healthcare fundraising experience.
  • Ability to work with highly confidential materials and have familiarity with financial information, including ability to understand and review complex grant budgets.
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and team player with a positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Ability to work across multiple deadlines.
  • Meticulous, organized, and detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Demonstrated success working as a member of a team and developing effective working relationships with staff.
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work and make recommendations to the senior director to solve problems independently, effectively and creatively.
