Job Summary:
The Office of Strategic Consulting is a full-service internal consulting and project management office within UW-Madison. We serve as a resource for schools, colleges, divisions, and administrative units across campus, partnering with them to enhance their organizational effectiveness. With our extensive professional expertise and in-depth knowledge of the university, we help campus clients address organizational challenges, advance strategic priorities, and achieve excellence, while also helping them build their own organizational capacity. The Communications and Marketing Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Communications and serves as a thinking partner in helping support the Office of Strategic Consulting's growing communications and marketing needs. The Communications and Marketing Specialist serves as a resource for staff across the office's five key functional areas - administration, consulting, project management and delivery, capacity building, and policy management.

The Communications and Marketing Specialist is responsible for:
- Optimizing and managing Strategic Consulting websites - ensuring content is clear, concise, and engaging, as well as accessible, easy to navigate, and aligned with the Strategic Consulting brand.
- Promoting Strategic Consulting services and events - developing compelling and inspiring messages that convey the value of our services and promote desired actions (e.g. registration, participation, requests for service); building relationships and coordinating with other campus communicators to facilitate knowledge-sharing and editorial/promotional collaboration.
- Helping enhance and manage the Strategic Consulting brand - partnering with the Associate Director of Communications and contracted graphic design vendors to develop narratives and visuals that reflect and demonstrate who we are and the value and impact of our work; also providing appropriate branded materials, tools, and templates for staff to support them as brand ambassadors for the office.
- Providing editorial review for staff on a wide range and variety of materials, including presentations, reports, one-pagers, and other materials.
- Helping identify and manage the office's communications and marketing priorities, working collaboratively with the Associate Director of Communications, the office's leadership team, and other Strategic Consulting staff to develop communications that help advance our strategic priorities and elevate our work.

Responsibilities:
Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
5% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
10% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
10% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
40% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
15% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
10% Helps enhance and manage Strategic Consulting brand
10% Manages content development and coordinates design for Strategic Consulting websites

Education:
Required
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
1) At least 4 years of professional communications experience
2) Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and abilities in the following:
a) Experience with website content development and management
b) Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in writing - including for promotional purposes - to achieve desired outcomes
c) Experience editing and proofreading following Associated Press or other editorial style guides
d) Experience developing and executing communications and/or marketing plans
e) Ability to coordinate communications and marketing activities
f) Knowledge of effective presentation techniques, tools, and principles
3) Strong attention to detail and deadlines
4) Ability to work as part of a team and contribute toward shared goals

PREFERRED:
1) Familiarity and experience with WordPress (website platform)
2) Knowledge and understanding of the principles of Plain Language
3) Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and abilities in any of the following:
a) Report writing and editing
b) Strategic messaging
c) Brand management
d) Development and/or application of styles and standards
4) Familiarity and experience with graphic design

Work Type:
Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
