Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.

Job Summary

Inspect campus landscape and hardscape areas regularly, and perform necessary chemical applications to these areas. Inspect and treat ornamental trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and turf grass for weeds, insects, diseases, and related pests. Maintain MSDS book, application records, chemical inventories, and complete Maximo reports. Assist in design and installation of campus annual flower beds. Responsible for maintaining flower beds. Responsible for mosquito control.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Inspect campus landscape and hardscape areas
  • Inspect the campus landscape for weed and pest problems
  • Apply fertilizers and herbicides to campus lawns, shrub and flower beds
  • Take soil samples as, needed and have tested by Extension Service
  • Maintain hardscape areas (sidewalks, brick paver walkways. patios. parking lots, etc.) by applying herbicides.to weeds, vines, and tree sprouts.

Inspects and treat ornamental trees
  • Provide weekly inspections during the growing season
  • Apply the least toxic pesticide to control the target pest
  • Practice IPM (Integrated Pest Management) when possible.
  • Comply with posting requirements and maintain pesticide treatment records
  • Collect, prepare and submit samples of pests and injury to GA. Dept. of Agriculture or appropriate agency
  • Removes and properly disposes of animal carcasses found in building or on grounds

Maintain MSDS book
  • Maintain MSDS book for all chemicals used in Landscape/Grounds Shop
  • Maintain chemical applications records book per State of Georgia requirements
  • Purchase and maintain pesticides, herbicides, plant health products, supplies and tools
  • Maintain and secure pesticide storage areas
  • Maintain MSDS and pesticide labels
  • Enter labor hours and materials used in the Maximo work system
  • Required to attend / complete necessary training obtain recertification hours for Georgia Pesticide Applicators License and Individual categories
  • Maintains maps that detail' bulb, flower beds, rye grassing. etc. activities

Assist in design and installation
  • Assist in selecting plant varieties for the annual beds and installing the flowers
  • Monitors soil moisture levels and hand waters beds that are not under irrigation
  • Maintains the flower beds and keeps them weed free chemically or manually by pulling them.
  • Maintains all campus rose beds by watering, weeding, fertilizing, preventive spraying , and pruning

Performs Related Work As Required
  • Treats students, coworkers, supervisors, faculty, and visitors with respect. Assist coworkers with other assignments such as pruning, mowing, mulching, pressure washing, weed and pest control. Maintains certification on forklift and JLG manlift. Monitors and records rainfall on the campus. Transport equipment, picks up supplies, and hauls yard debris off campus when needed. Performs the duties of a Lead Groundskeeper when needed due to work load or the Lead Groundskeeper's absence. Attends supervisor's meeting and event setup meetings if the Landscape / Grounds Foreman is unable to attend. Sweeps floor and remove debris. Keeps tools and equipment in good condition and stored properly. Returns flammable product containers to fire proof storage cabinets. Safeguards and secures ground equipment. Performs any other duties and assignments as instructed by the supervisor.

Assists Coworkers with Event Setups
  • Completes work orders and assignments for special events such as Pig Out.
  • A-Day, Orientation, Adopt-A-Spot, etc.
  • Assists with setup and removal of tents.
  • Assists with preparation of locations for events.
  • Provides assistance in removing trash and cleaning up after events.
  • Responsible for treating event area locations for ants and spraying for mosquitos.

Mosquitos Control
  • Performs mosquito control on Summerville Campus by fogging and using pellets.
  • Coordinates with the Augusta Health Department about periodic treatments they perform on campus.
  • Closely monitors open bodies of water on campus for mosquitos activity and treats accordingly.

Purchasing Card Responsibility
  • Must possess a complete understanding of and adhere to Augusta University, University of Georgia and Department Of Administrative Services guidelines and laws of the State Georgia regarding Purchasing Card use.
  • Must complete regular (minimum-annual) training in the use of the p-card.
  • Must complete purchasing card reconciliation in a timely manner as prescribed by Augusta University Purchasing Office Guidelines as posted on the Purchasing web page.
  • Must utilize WORKS software and provide additional paper documentation to verify transaction.


Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accredited organization. One year of experience as a pest control operator, trainee, or apprentice.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days: Monday - Friday

Pay Grade: 7

Salary Minimum: $15.00/hourly

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Recruitment Period: 2/8/24 - Until Filled.

Conditions of Employment
