Summary

The Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking to recruit a research assistantto study and apply a combination of molecular biology techniques, small molecule discovery, drug dosage, cell biology, and biochemical techniques to uncover novel mechanisms in enhancing cardiac cellular reprogramming efficiency. Our lab leads translational research projects that use state-of-the-art techniques and advanced animal models. We provide our staff with an exceptional platform for career development.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs, and conducts research experiments both in vitro and in vivo. For in vitro experiments, skills include cell culture, viral transfection, qPCR, and flow cytometry. For in vivo experiments, skills include animal handling, administration of anesthesia, euthanasia, tissue harvesting, cell isolation from harvested tissue, and imaging of animals utilizing echocardiography and IVUS.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data. Compiles data, performs statistical comparison, and prepares data for presentations and publications.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators. Presents data at weekly laboratory meeting.
  • Trains and orients less experienced research staff.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
