What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking an engineering Program Lead to direct the development and deployment of Model-Based Definition (MBD) capability to support nuclear weapons programs at Sandia National Laboratories. This position is officially within the R&D Mechanical Engineering Job Family. You will need an understanding of engineering principles to develop, demonstrate, and deploy new MBD methods, designs, concepts, products, processes, and systems. The selected candidate will lead the SNL MBD Team and work with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), weapon programs, and stakeholders from across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) to develop MBD strategies. They will then execute those strategies and successfully deploy MBD methodologies, tools, processes, training, maintenance, and customer support for end users. The selected candidate can take pride in the fact that deploying real, practical MBD capability directly supports the larger initiative to accelerate nuclear weapon product realization through digital engineering and thus safeguard our country and way of life. On any given day, you may be asked to: + Lead projects to enhance our knowledge and understanding of MBD fundamentals and deploy state-of-the-art MBD capability to achieve SNL goals + Use engineering principles to initiate, design, develop, test, analyze, execute, and evaluate new MBD methodologies, processes, products, and systems through research and investigation + Identify and develop practical MBD strategies and program goals to improve product realization efficiencies across the nuclear weapon lifecycle and to support the deployment of digital engineering + Negotiate MBD goals and deliverables with the NNSA, weapon programs, and NSE stakeholders + Lead the development of project scopes, requirements, roadmaps, schedules, as well as cost and resource estimates + Lead the development of work package agreements and negotiate approval from funding sources + Determine necessary program resources and collaborate with management to acquire + Oversee project management efforts including project planning, developing detailed work breakdown structures, delegation of project resources, and monitoring project progress + Lead project execution to ensure projects are completed on-time and within budget + Report program and project status to management, customers, and stakeholders + Present MBD strategies and goals to educate and generate buy-in from various stakeholders + Design and implement organizational change management strategies to enable adoption of MBD capability and improve overall perception from users and stakeholders Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience + Plus 5 years of related experience that demonstrates knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the program lead role + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-Level Security Clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Familiarity with model-based definition, mechanical computer aided design (CAD), product data management (PDM), and manufacturing concepts and principles + Ability to implement a systematic process for identifying opportunities where MBD can improve the current state of practice + Knowledge and ability to communicate MBD concepts and objectives by describing the current state of practice and how MBD can support and improve the product realization process + Familiarity with the NNSA, the 6.X Product Realization Process, ND Product Realization Teams, and Strategic Partnering Programs (SPP) + Familiarity with the Nuclear Security Enterprise, the key roles and interfaces between NSE sites, the requirements and processes governing nuclear weapon program work, nuclear weapon technologies, and the tools used to perform work + Knowledge and experience in planning, research, design, development, qualification, and/or production of Nuclear Weapon Systems + Ability to make decisions requiring scientific, engineering, and programmatic judgment + Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion + Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare clearly written reports and deliver well-articulated briefings + Familiarity with project management practices for technical work including developing work packages, project plans, schedules with detailed work breakdown structures as well as managing to scope, schedule, and budget + Demonstrated teaming skills including the ability to work effectively across disciplines, with leadership at multiple levels, customers, and stakeholders About Our Team: The Strategic Planning and Execution department (02953) is the Sandia home for the Model-Based Definition Team. This team is responsible for identifying target maturity levels for Model-Based Definition technologies and then developing and deploying tools, processes, training, and documentation to achieve those targets. The MBD solutions that this team deploys are then used by Sandia’s “Design Engineering” group to generate the actual product design definition used in the nuclear weapon product realization process as well as projects for partners across Sandia National Labs. The Design Engineering group consists of multiple design departments which provide design engineering services using MCAD and ECAD tools such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Product Data Management (PDM) software.
