What Your Job Will Be Like: The Next-Gen Systems & Analysis (NGSA) Group delivers mission-based concepts, designs, and analysis for next generation military systems primarily for integrated deterrence and defense. It specializes in missile, air, and space systems including directed energy as well as the information warfare operations domain. The engineers and scientists in this group research, develop and apply a variety of modeling, simulation, and analytic capabilities to evaluate and assess key performance characteristics for optimizing next generation system concept and design requirements, evaluate large trade space options to inform next generation designs for multi-domain dominance. The NGSA group partners closely with many organizations within the national security enterprise especially those involved with hypersonic missiles, air defense, and space systems innovation. We are seeking a hardworking, forward-thinking leader to join us as the manager of the Military Systems Analysis department comprised of engineers, scientists, and software developers. This department provides a wide variety of modeling, simulation and analytics for complex challenges and emerging threats facing the DOE, DoD and each of the military services. The research, development and applied project work accomplished by the department covers a broad range of challenges in national security missions that require a variety of methodologies and analytic approaches. We develop unique analytic capabilities to address and inform decisions focused on enhancing and modernizing current military systems as well as next generation concepts for our nation’s future national security. Our multi-disciplinarian team typically includes engineers, scientists and software developers that are adept at intelligent data analytics, advanced stochastic event driven simulations and geo-political themed systems dynamics modeling and simulation with enabling machine learning and artificial intelligence. We also work with cognitive scientists (cognitive psychology, I/O psychology, human factors) from across Sandia as well as external partners and universities on or various projects. The department manager will frequently engage with DoD Services and Combatant Commands, government labs, and other government agencies (OGAs) on high priority technical capability gaps. The manager will collaborate closely with leaders at Sandia and other federally funded research and development centers (FFRDC), University-Affiliated Research Center Laboratories (UARCs), and industry partners to focus on high impact applications. The manager supervises the execution of funded projects with project staff and experienced principal investigators and is responsible to ensure all work complies with lab standards for safety, security, and quality. In addition to business development and program execution, the manager will be responsible for the talent acquisition, training, and career development of a technically diverse team. The manager will ensure an inclusive environment that promotes connection, mutual trust, and individual courage to form a strong and connected team within the group. These responsibilities for engagement, execution, and talent management will require moderate travel. Ability to travel approximately 25% and interact positively with a diverse set of customers and partners. Due to the nature of the role, this candidate must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Master’s degree in relevant STEM field, plus 4 years of experience in research, technology development, and/or operations involving national security. + Two years of demonstrated leadership experience. + Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q security clearance and SCI clearance, work on special access programs as required. Qualifications We Desire: + Experience with advanced aerospace, missiles and space related modeling, simulation, and experimentation methods. + Demonstrated proficiency in clear and concise written and verbal communications. + Experience developing and executing project plans focused on urgent operational needs . + Experience working with the DoD, DOE and/ or other federal agencies involved with national security (e.g. MDA, INDOPACOM, EUCOM, STRATCOM, SPACECOM, DARPA, or DoD services involved with developing missile, air, and space capabilities) + Experience working with NATO and its associated commands. + Experience evaluating the performance of complex systems of systems in contested environments. + Demonstrated ability to listen and learn the operational needs of a national security customer, develop a plan, and then communicate technical solutions that are clear and easy to understand. + Demonstrated ability to build teams, connect with others, and help find solutions to organizational conflict. + Experience providing mentorship for the career growth and leader development of others. + Exceptional interpersonal skills to attract and retain top talent. + Active top secret or Q-level security clearance + Active SCI clearance About Our Team: The Military Systems Analysis organization endeavors to understand and provide critical performance assessments to inform warfighter technology and systems needs through mod/sim and analysis of mission operations and engagement vignettes. These analyses are used to better understand emerging threats and capability gaps to support the development of next generation concepts and associated technology roadmaps development, trade studies and requirements for future systems. The development of future concepts leverages the offensive and defensive weapon technology expertise, integrated military systems capabilities, and analysis performed throughout mission areas across Sandia. Current projects are focused on current weapon system modernization initiatives and future next generation weapon system concepts. The team consists of multi-disciplinary engineers, scientists and source matter experts in military operations, force structure, mission modeling and simulation, and associated military systems. These teams focus on adding value by providing the analytic underpinnings for innovative conceptual designs and engineering to develop next generation warfighter capabilities for, integrated defense and deterrence in the air, missile, and space domain. This department is part of the Next-Gen Systems & Analysis (NGSA) Group which has two major programmatic areas: Military Systems Analytics and Directed Energy. NGSA is part of the Integrated Military Systems (IMS) Center. IMS develops and demonstrates game-changing systems and technologies to solve our warfighters' most challenging, urgent, and high-risk problems—to help defend our nation and defeat threats to national security.
