What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a highly motivated experienced engineer with a passion for product design and development of mechanism components. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Create, modify, and evaluate complex component and system definition by implementing and integrating advanced design solutions + Lead teams in the design of three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems + Present designs to clients + Independently determine and gather product requirements and apply new concepts and options to product design + Utilize three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop and propose mechanical designs and perform complex analysis and review various designs and applications + Analyze product performance and results to improve designs and develop new methods and concepts Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other relevant discipline plus 5 years of exempt engineering experience, or associate degree in relevant field plus 9 years of exempt engineering experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience + 5-years’ experience using CAD software for 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing of mechanism components + Experience with model-based definition and design practices + DOE Q clearance or equivalent requires to start Qualifications We Desire: + Experience using PTC-Creo software for mechanical engineering and design of mechanism components + Understanding of mechanical engineering design principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements + Understand principles of tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) based on experience, training, or certification such as ASME GDTP technologist level + Understanding of configuration management principles + Understanding of design for manufacturing principles for mechanical hardware + Demonstrated successful teamwork, communication skills (oral and written), and consistent demonstration of good behaviors + Knowledge and understanding of the NW engineering systems and the NNSA product realization process + Ability to lead mechanical design teams to create mechanism components About Our Team: The Mechanical Design, Modeling & Analysis Department provides mechanical design and analysis services for internal Sandia customers. We partner with engineering teams in the Advanced Mechanical Design Group to produce innovative mechanism design solutions based on high-quality CAD models and drawings. We ensure fit, form, and function using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), while ensuring manufacturability and maintainability of designs. We determine the physical characteristics of the product including geometric form, interface features, manufacturing specifications, processes, and assembly instructions. We communicate design options and recommended approaches to product development teams, stakeholders, and manufacturing partners. We apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovative products in support of our Nation’s security programs.
