College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Standardized Patient unit within the MCG Educational Simulation program, the Regional Standardized Patient (SP) Educator is an individual that develops and provides all SP training for regional MCG simulation case portrayal, physical exam procedures, equipment and room set-up, and medical procedures training events using established standards of simulation best practice. They will work closely with the Director of the SP program and MCG Educational Simulation leadership in the planning and implementation of educational activities utilizing SPs at the MCG regional campuses. Duties include the recruitment, hiring, scheduling, and performance evaluation of regional Standardized Patient Advisor (SPAs). They will assist in the simulation equipment maintenance and inventory management for MCG's regional Experiential Learning sites. Duties also include planning, training, and coordinating MCG Education Simulation events not directly utilizing regional SPs, as well as advising MCG and other regional faculty on simulation and procedure-based learning experiences.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides training and supervision to regional standardized patient advisors {SPAs) for simulation case portrayal, equipment and room set-up and procedures demonstration utilizing best practices for SP education and current simulation training techniques.
  • Performs periodic performance review and evaluation of the regional SPAs for authenticity and accuracy, providing constructive feedback to ensure standards of quality and effectiveness of the standardized patient program.
  • Develops and implements a remediation process for underperforming regional SPAs under the guidance of the MCG Educational Simulation SP Director.
  • Assists in the management, planning, coordination, and organization of bedside procedural education events as part of MCG 3+ curricula for Clerkship Patient-Centered Learning, end Enrichment Patient-Centered Learning.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Bedside Procedural Education for effective use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists the SP Director with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new regional SPAs.
  • Onboards new regional SPAs.
  • Serves as a resource to address and resolve day-or-event issues for regional MCG campuses during statewide simulation activities.
  • Advises MCG regional and community faculty in the development, design, and Implementation of procedural-based or simulation workshops according to best practices, tailored to meet specific curricular objectives in coordination with the MCG Educational Simulation program.
  • Acts as a liaison for MCG bedside procedure-based learning experiences for MCG Experiential Learning throughout event preparation, room setup, and coordination, ensuring effective use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains effective communication with staff, faculty, and students associated with MCG Experiential Learning activities.
  • Assists with statewide program evaluation and ensuring program quality, including identification, documentation, and communication of areas of potential improvement.
  • Provides input into the design, development, and implementation of simulation-based educational activities in collaboration with MCG Associate Dean of Experiential Learning, Director of Bedside Procedural Education, Enrichment PCL Course Director, and Assistant Dean of Education Simulation. Ensures standards of quality and effectiveness of the educational program, ensures content is aligned and integrated in the curriculum, and performs periodic review and evaluation of the program to identify opportunities and make recommendations for growth and improvement.
  • Acts as an Experiential Learning liaison for MCG regional campuses experiences throughout case preparation, room set up and events.
  • Perform other responsibilities and contribute to additional projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a Healthcare field or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare or academic setting OR Masters degree from an accredited college or university with 3 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field from an accredited college or university

Five years of experience as an instructor to health professions learners

Experience with health professions simulation technologies

Familiarity with the use of personal computers and audio/visual equipment

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Detail-oriented

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Grade: 19

Salary Minimum: $51,967.00/Annually - $70,155.00/Annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position)
