What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Software Systems Engineer to join our Structural Dynamics team to transform our operational toolsets, implement new data processing/management solutions, and manage the team’s system administrator tasks. On any given day you may be called on to: + Develop new programs and subprograms, as well as enhancements, modification, and corrections to existing software, including web application database solutions. + Develop requirements, workflow, and systems analysis. + Establish standards for development and maintenance of new and existing products. + Apply strategic thinking to deliver user-experience solutions with a focus on user needs and business goals. + Use judgement to suggest solutions that balance customer needs, business constraints, and technical realities. + Create and guide the design of user interfaces for software features and products. + Apply standard software engineering practices in the development of solutions. + Define and participate in software build, release, and installation procedures. + Document work and results. + Develop test plans and perform testing. + Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across multiple departments. + Research and evaluate new software and technologies for the team. + Investigate and help implement data storage and management solutions across multiple teams. + Manage system administration duties for multiple computer systems and data acquisition hardware/software systems for a team of engineers and technologists. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field + Minimum one year professional experience in software/application development + Experience using SQL or other relational databases + Experience in application development and object-oriented programming + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Demonstrated ability to develop solutions that meet customer requirements + Experience performing computer system administration duties for a team + Basic knowledge of experimental test laboratory operations + Exposure to managing large data repositories About Our Team: The Experimental Structural Dynamics Department (01522) is an integral part of the Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Our Center is the steward of engineering mechanics and dynamics for Sandia, and we are dedicated to solving our customer’s most pressing and important national security problems. Our department specializes in advanced experimental diagnostic methods to characterize the inherent dynamic properties of structures and their complex response under operational environments. We support instrumentation efforts for high-consequence environmental tests and field data collection operations. We provide experimental modal models as well as high-quality data for analytical model validation through collaboration with the Analytical Structural Dynamics Department. The team also maintains a considerable R&D portfolio with focus areas including hybrid system modeling/substructuring, advanced multi-axis ground testing methods, nonlinear dynamics, transfer path analysis, experimental uncertainty quantification, and high-speed non-contact diagnostics. Position Information: This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
