What Your Job Will Be Like: Do you want to be part of an exciting, dynamic, and highly technical team of specialists? We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Electromechanical Technologist to join us in the important work being done in the Arming and Firing Systems department! The successful candidate will support our operations by playing a vital role in the development and fielding of training devices to support the NEST Standard and Training Program (NSTP) and Joint Technical Operations Team (JTOT) render safe mission. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform hands-on fabrication of devices used in training exercises. + Support nationwide field training activities and maintenance of equipment and laboratory capabilities. + Perform thorough implementation of work planning and control processes to ensure safe, secure, and high-quality operations. + Be responsible for assuring effectiveness of existing processes with respect to safety, quality, cost, and schedule. This position will be required to travel 25% of the time Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical technology; Or high school diploma plus three (3) or more years of directly related experience. + Experience with high consequence safety operations, such as explosive, high voltage, and radioactive related processes. + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire: + Experience in the following: + Field testing. + Machine tool. + Electrical/mechanical fabrication. + Test equipment, such as digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, soldering, and population of circuit boards. + 3D Rapid Prototyping and troubleshooting 3D Printing Machines. + Knowledge of high voltage fireset theory. + Ability to draw and interpret basic electronic circuit schematics. + Experience and comfortability teaching electronics and/or working with customers. + Knowledge of microcontroller programming (e.g. Arduino/Raspberry Pi). + Able to work autonomously. + Experience collaborating with external vendors. + Ability to draw and interpret basic electronic circuit schematics. + Law Enforcement Bomb Squad or Military EOD experience. + Experience working with fluid or high pressure systems. + Stabilization or Joint Technical Operation Team (JTOT) Program experience. + Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent. About Our Team: The Arming and Firing Systems Department, 6635, serves the nation's need for innovation, research, design, development, maintenance and testing of arming and firing (A&F) systems. The department provides innovative design and development of specialized firing systems and associated electro-mechanical devices, provides specialized training including IED/IND/WMD render-safe, disable, and responder technologies, also provides arming and firing systems and training for nuclear and non-nuclear response forces. In doing so, we collaborate with multiple Sandia departments to ensure continued innovation and success to serve customers from DOE/NNSA, DoD, DOJ, DHS, and other government agencies via IHNS, DSA, and NW SMUs. Position Information: This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
