One of nine campuses of the Massachusetts state university system, MMA serves and prepares 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students for careers in the marine transportation, engineering, international maritime business, emergency management, and environmental fields. The Position
Reporting to the president, the vice president for student services is a member of the senior leadership team and participates in institutional planning and decision making. The vice president partners with senior administrators, faculty, staff, student leaders, and trustees to ensure that cadets receive the highest quality student life experience through services that support their well-being, development, engagement, and success. The vice president is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and management of units and functions that comprise the student services division, including the dean of students/commandant’s office (housing, residential life, conduct, student government, and activities), athletics, and health services (medical and mental health services). The vice president and the student services team are critically engaged in all aspects of the cadet experience, including leadership and character development; campus life, teamwork, and daily activities and operations; conduct, morale, and discipline; and drills, ceremonies, and physical fitness. This position supervises 25 staff employees, including five direct reports, and manages a $2.5 million budget.

Qualifications
Massachusetts Maritime Academy seeks in its new vice president for student services an experienced leader of people and programs who thinks strategically, communicates effectively, manages resources wisely, acts with the highest degree of integrity, and inspires the confidence and trust of others. Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree and demonstrated experience fostering student learning and development. The ideal candidate will have a doctorate, senior leadership experience in higher education, and civilian merchant marine or military experience. This person will also demonstrate a passion for working with students, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and an affinity for the distinctive mission and character of the Academy. The anticipated hiring salary range is $150,000 to $170,000 annually, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be expected to take office during the summer of 2024. The institution is not sponsoring immigration visas at this time.
