The Service Desk Supervisor position oversees the daily operations of the library's Access Services department, including customer service and student worker supervision. Areas of responsibility include circulation, interlibrary loan, equipment checkout, course reserves, systems and facilities maintenance, and support in other areas as needed. Skills in leadership, communication, organization, and solution management are important in this role. This position reports to the Head of Access Services.

This position is part-time (20 hours/week), with morning and afternoon shifts, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Schedule flexibility is required. Applicants must be able to accommodate schedule changes during extended library hours, holidays, intersessions, short staffing, and summer. Additional hours may be available during certain times of the year.

Requirements
1. Library Service Desk Management
  • Organizes, maintains, and manages the processes and operations of the service desk
  • Provides frontline customer service and assists with resolving patron questions or issues
  • Exercises judgment and discretion within defined procedures and policies to problem-solve, supervise, and manage regular duties
  • Assists with scheduling and staffing needs
  • Responsible for building security and safety while on shift
  • May be responsible for opening or closing the library during periods of schedule changes, including weekends, holidays, and extended library hours

2. Supervision of Student Workers
  • Oversees student workers, and ensures duties are completed with care and with the mission of the library in mind
  • Assists with training
  • Communicates with students on their availability and helps with scheduling
  • Acts as a mentor, provides skills development and opportunities for engagement in library activities and outreach

3. Access Services Department Support, as needed
  • Assists with interlibrary loan (ILL) and document delivery
  • Supports textbook requests, print reserves, and course reserves processing and outreach
  • Helps with systems support and patron downloads
  • Troubleshoots technology issues and works with the College's technology department to ensure the access services-related tools, systems, and technologies are up to date and working properly

4. Other Duties as Assigned
  • Provides administrative support for special projects and programs
  • Participates in training opportunities and professional development, as appropriate to job responsibilities and as time permits
  • Collaborates with colleagues to determine best practices

Salary Description $31.70
