The Opportunity:

WSU Tri-Cities GEAR UP Programs seeks a Fiscal Specialist 1 or 2. As the Fiscal Specialist, you will provide a variety of complex financial support that includes analysis, development, processing, and reporting of fiscal data under the general direction from the GEAR UP Program Director. Primary responsibilities will include reconciling expenses (goods and services, travel, personal service contracts, etc.); research, troubleshoot, resolve discrepancies, and make corrections/adjustments as needed. Coordinate logistics for travel and administrative related activities for the program. Will provide recommendations for fiscal record keeping improvements and ensure compliance with departmental, institutional, state and/or grant agency policies, rules, and regulations. Serve as the main point of contact for questions or concerns related to budgetary workbooks, purchasing card transactions, and travel. Provide support in cost share and procurement. This position responsibilities include initiation and successful implementation of tasks that are detail oriented, punctual, and reliable.


Required Qualifications for a Fiscal Specialist 1:

Three years of fiscal record keeping experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

Required Qualifications for a Fiscal Specialist 2:

Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.

Required Qualifications for Both Fiscal Specialist 1 & 2:

Demonstrated knowledge and skill proficiency of financial, administrative systems or similar systems.

Experience in fiscal operations involving bookkeeping, accounts payable, purchasing or other fiscal record-keeping functions.

Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets with strong experience creating spreadsheets, formulas, and summarizing/interpreting data.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner.

Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, including peers, school administrators, vendors, and staff.


Preferred Qualifications for Both Fiscal Specialist 1 & 2:

Experience in reconciling and analyzing data.

Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures.

Familiarity with Workday.

Experience providing support in a higher education, local or state agency.

Experience with grant funded programs.
