NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$142,600 - $242,300

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a manager to join our multidisciplinary team, partner across our space and ground systems programs, and provide leadership and guidance to this highly capable department of 14 software engineers and computer scientists. While the department is currently fully committed to Sandia’s nuclear detonation detection mission, increased demand within Sandia's Space Mission Program may necessitate growth and engagement in new mission areas.

Core responsibilities for this position:

  • Provide leadership for existing software development teams extending and enhancing mission applications of over 1M source lines of code.
  • Assume primary responsibility for cost estimation, development, and delivery of new-start development projects.
  • Partner across the Modern Systems leadership team to support complex operational information systems and meet the needs of mission users.
  • Work alongside mission partners in laboratory centers 2600, 5300, 5400, 6300, 6700, and 9300 to define and implement both short and long-term strategies for successful program execution.
  • Advance software development competencies within the department and across the center through hiring and the strategic injection of new technologies and approaches.
  • Maintain a working environment for the engineers in 6361 that promotes purposeful productivity, mutual respect, and a state of flow.
  • Bring personal perspective on the current and future needs of laboratory missions to influence the future of the group and center.
  • Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work on-site at the Albuquerque, NM location at least 80% of the time.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree, or higher, in a related STEM discipline
  • Eight (8) or more years in related software development experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • A minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in translating high-level direction into action
  • A strong background and years of proven experience in large-scale software systems architectures and software development and testing of applications written in modern programming languages (e.g. C++, Java, Python)
  • Proficiency with software development lifecycle activities (such as specification, development, integration and test, and long-term support) and with structured software development methodologies, tools, and processes, including Agile team structures
  • Experience with team leadership and project management (cost, schedule, performance)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and excel in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team management environment, including sound technical verbal and written communication
  • Experience collaborating with internal or external organizations and building trust-based relationships
  • Experience working in large scale, multi-team, multi-disciplinary environments
  • Experience with the recruiting and hiring of computer scientists and IT professionals
  • Enthusiasm for discovering innovative, forward-looking approaches that solve unmet mission needs
  • Experience developing in Unix/Linux operating environments
  • Experience using configuration management and CI/CD pipeline tools
  • Strong presentation skills including demonstrated successful experience in customer engagement
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Current Q/SCI clearance or equivalent
