The primary objectives of the LEP are consolidation of all B61 mods except the B61-11; maintaining military effectiveness; improving safety, and security; and reducing overall National Nuclear Security Administration and Department of Defense cost of ownership over the life of the system. Sandia’s current participation in the B61-12 LEP includes conducting design agency activities, acting as the technical integrator, teaming with its design agency partners (Los Alamos National Laboratory) and its production agency partners (Sandia, LANL, Kansas City National Security Campus, Pantex Plant, Y-12 National Security Complex, and Savannah River Site).

Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
