What you’ll do:
Participate in an on-call rotation to deliver support to end users, address operational issues, coordinate vendor support, and internal escalation of events.
Perform other necessary and appropriate tasks as directed by ITS management.
Identify and help drive improvements to technical processes
Assist with automation processes using shell scripts, Ansible, GIT, and CI/CD pipelines.
Assist team members with users/stakeholders to instruct and help advise in automating their workloads.
Collaborate and help build utilities and tools for internal use that enable Systems Engineering to operate at high speed and wide scale
Participate in meeting WVU's goals of migrating operations to cloud infrastructure. Typical tasks include migrating physical systems to virtual, migration of on premises systems to cloud, monitoring resource consumption to ensure proper sizing, refactoring legacy systems to use modern cloud native technologies, etc. This will be done as a team effort with Systems Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, and Infrastructure Architects.
Learn and leverage groundbreaking technologies.
Collaborate with members of the Systems Engineering and complete or participate in completing tasks defined or distributed by senior members. This may include collaborating with other ITS groups, vendors, and customers across WVU to gather requirements and successfully complete tickets or tasks.
Assist senior members with tasks relating to project work. This may include tasks like building servers or working on documentation and automation that will help with the support and implementation of enterprise systems. These directives may come outside of the ticketing system

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of experience of two (2) years of combined experience involving:
Unix/Linux Systems Administration.
Virtualization and/or cloud technologies and administration.
Recent Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience strongly preferred
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or the ability to acquire the RHCSA within the first year of employment.
Additional certifications relevant to Linux/UNIX, Windows, AWS, VMware, Azure administration or related technologies are preferred.
Self-motivated and ability to take instruction from senior members, while demonstrating the ability to prioritize competing tasks/projects.
Strong desire to learn, assess, and apply information whether about technology, people, processes, academia landscape, etc. Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to develop effective working relationships with peers and other University organizations and vendors .
Good organizational skills.
Linux/UNIX Experience configuring, managing, or troubleshooting systems at scale (cloud, virtualization, distributed networks, colocation.)
Knowledge of a scripting language (Shell, Python, PowerShell, etc).
Familiarity with networking concepts and troubleshooting techniques (e.g., TCP/IP, VPN, Firewalls)
Technical problem investigation, analysis, and finding/implementing solutions in a timely manner.
Ability to use VMware, AWS, and Azure technologies.
Understands and implements best practices relating to system design and business process documentation.
Red Hat systems administration knowledge, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Maintain an active awareness of the current IT industry security landscape, and effectively communicate potential threats with senior members of the team.
Ability to provide remote end user support.
Ability to execute server recovery procedures.
Windows Server administration experience
Experience with Configuration Management Software (ex. Chef, Ansible, Puppet)
