The Office of Admissions at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Admissions Specialist II.

About the Opportunity

Incumbent is responsible for evaluating freshman admission files, which leads to an admission decision. This involves researching the documentation, determining appropriate action, verifying accreditation and entering the data into the Banner/STAR system. These duties require thorough knowledge of Freshman policies and procedures for WVU.

What you'll do:

Evaluates freshman applications to determine eligibility for admission to WVU. This includes computing grade point averages from high school transcripts not using 4-point grading scale. Check ACT / SAT scores and core course requirements from student’s admission application to determine whether student is eligible for admission to WVU and is admissible to desired major. Also determines residency status of student.
Lead contact Answering email questions from Admissions Vanity account. Offers assistance to communications unit pertaining to current and prospective students, parents, counselors, and other university personnel concerning admission policies and application status.
Assists in processing large volumes of incoming Freshman and, ACCESS student applications by utilizing Workflow. Accesses and utilizes multiple forms in the Banner/STAR system to verify student’s current status in the system. Once verified, numerous data items are entered on multiple forms. Such items include high school and/or college information, test scores, and documents received. Reviews application and information on the system to determine student residency and admit type. Once these decisions have been made, the data is entered into the system. Reviews and updates the student checklist, determines missing information and completes & verifies request letters.
Admission liaison during Orientation. Providing support, answering questions, and working with academic departments to update student data. May serves as Freshman Representative at WVU Events and Open Houses.
Enters college transfer credit into STAR system for incoming students. Determines appropriate college level course translation and initiates system articulation of equivalent courses.
Assists in researching incoming mail by accessing batches in the document imaging system. Interprets Banner/STAR records to determine the appropriate location for the materials. Records receipt of the material on the Banner/STAR system. Scans student materials received by mail. Reviews applications and determines if the file is complete and ready for evaluation.
Provides functional guidance and training to new staff, temporary employees, and student workers who perform administrative activities.
Cross-trained to assist other units, including Assistant Directors, and other WVU admission and recruiting staff with special projects as instructed.

Qualifications

Associates or equivalent education and experience.
A minimum of two years’ experience involving:
Banner/STAR experience or equivalent database, Word processing, Data entry, scanning.
Calculate simple math problems.
Professional communication and writing skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, determine relative importance of each, set deadlines, and complete projects in a timely manner.
Data entry skills, word processing skills, Banner/STAR database experience, professional communication skills.
The ability to utilize multiple computer screens, multi-line telephone, scanning and FAX machine.
