ABOUT THE POSITION
Position Overview: This is a lab manager position in the Lefevre Laboratory that studies the neural circuitry of opioid addiction. A primary emphasis is on the implementation of an intravenous opioid self-administration task in mice. We utilize a variety of methods including mouse behavior, intracranial surgery, jugular catheterization, slice electrophysiology, qPCR and transcriptomics as well as in-vivo neuromodulation approaches (chemogenetics, optogenetics and fiber photometry) to answer our research questions. This position will involve working closely with the PI to manage the laboratory and lead or assist others with ongoing projects. The lab manager will also be responsible for animal colony management.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Research (60%)
● Design, conduct, analyze experiments and report findings to PI. Lead projects or contribute to larger team projects.
● Modify or develop new protocols.
Laboratory management (30%)
● Oversee general laboratory organization including ordering, equipment management, and assistance in protocol writing.
● Manage the animal colony, assist in controlled substance management and biohazard disposal.
Train students and laboratory personnel (10%)
● Mentor and teach undergraduate students and more junior people in the laboratory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience.


PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Prior laboratory management experience, preferably in a lab with mouse models.
● Prior experience working with opioid mouse models is ideal but not required.
