What Your Job Will Be Like:

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking to hire enthusiastic and customer friendly Deployed Security Professional (Limited Term Employee) to support our mission customers! Are you ready to utilize your excellent interpersonal, communication, and investigative skills to address and solve security related matters with our customers?

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Meet and collaborate with the following groups to identify and mitigate security risks:
  • + Project teams or managers and program area customers
  • Other DSPs or HRESPs
  • Other Security Program SMEs
  • Create and implement communications regarding security.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Security orders and policies.
  • Support and sometimes perform Root Cause Analyses on Incidents of Security Concern, and appropriately document and help managers handle corrective actions.
  • Attend tier meetings at the Division, Center, Group, and/or Organization level to share Security messages, incidents, lessons learned and standard processes.
  • Use outside-the-box thinking at approaches to enable the mission while ensuring compliance with Security orders, requirements, and policies.
  • Research and respond to Security related questions that are unique or unfamiliar.
  • Communicate and implement new Security requirements across a broad and diverse customer set.
  • Establish and maintain business rhythm processes.
  • Represent DSPs on security policy teams and incorporate changes into DSP program.
  • Provide security training to the workforce.
  • Completion upon hiring to take all requisite Safeguards & Security (S&S) training courses including, but not limited to DEPO and SEC900 series.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, National Security, or a related discipline, or a technology field pertinent to the customer's program/project areas of work; or equivalent relevant education and experience (inclusive of applied science associate degrees)
  • Current or previous experience working in a Laboratory environment
  • Must have an active DOE L-level security clearance (or equivalent, such as SCI or DOD Secret) to start

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Current experience directly supporting the Labs in an information security area or other policy area.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
  • Solving security-related actions and issues and providing recommendations.
  • Educate and guide others on Security requirements and/or policy requirements
  • Developing Security presentations, processes, and communicating these mediums to the company and/or customers.
  • Ability to review metrics for leadership and communicate the health of a program
  • Applied knowledge of DOE Security orders and Sandia's S&S Programs and Policies.
  • Project management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex issues both in writing and verbally using excellent interpersonal/communications skills.

About Our Team:

The Deployed Security Program organization provides Safeguards and Security (S&S) program knowledge and expertise via Deployed Security Professionals matrixed to Divisions and/or Centers, as well as High Risk/Embedded Security Professionals matrixed to programs and/or projects. The Deployed Security Program's objective is to identify risks and mitigate incidents of security concern to effectively and efficiently enable Sandia's mission.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
