Summary

The Optometrist is a medical provider who provides optometric care.  The Optometrist examines patients to determine the nature and degree of vision problems and/or eye disease.  They work closely with Ophthalmologists in which to manage care.  Will be in participating in clinical research programs for evaluating quality of vision and intraocular lens calculations for Dr. Douglas Koch.  This will include working with a number of new measuring and imaging technologies.  The Optometrist will be working as part of a team engaged in these research activities.

This position is located at Baylor College of Medicine's McNair Campus.

Job Duties

  • Examines patients and perform various tests to determine visual acuity and perception.
  • Prescribes eyeglasses, corrective lenses and other vision aids or therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
  • Consults with patients and refer them to Ophthalmologists or other health care practitioners if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.
  • Studies eye diseases and how to prevent and cure them.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD).
  • Current license as an Optometrist by the Texas Optometry Board.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a clinical or academic setting with direct patient care.
