Intern/Aide
Job Description
Summary
The position is primarily focused on molecular genetics in Drosophila as well as other insect species. The primary goal is to develop transgenic strains using state-of-the-art molecular techniques (such as Crispr/Cas9). Experience with fly genetics is a plus but not required.
Job Purpose
Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.
Job Duties
- Sets up cloning reactions, performs restriction digests, transforms bacterial cultures, makes glycerol stocks.
- Designs primers, sets up PCR reactions, runs gele electrophoresis.
- Performs In vitro transcribing single guide RNAs.
- Injects fly embryos, sets up crosses with transgenic flies and balancing fly stocks.
- Maintains fly stocks.
- Performs dissections of fly brains and immunohistochemistry to stain fluorescent markers and specific proteins.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be enrolled in high school or be a high school graduate (or equivalent secondary education) or enrolled in an institution of higher education.
