Job Description
Summary
The Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine invites applications for a faculty position at the level of tenure-track assistant professor or associate or full professor with tenure. We seek a candidate who is passionate about conducting cutting-edge research to understand fundamental aging processes or age-related diseases, including but not limited to metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders. The successful candidate is expected to direct a competitive, independent, and extramurally funded basic or translational research program.
The faculty member will submit and secure funding from NIH and other foundations and build an independent and competitive research program in aging and age-related diseases, measured by peer-reviewed publications, invited presentations and external research support. The faculty member is also expected to participate in teaching graduate student level courses, serve as members of qualifying exam and thesis advisory committees, as well as other committees of the HCOA and BCM. The successful candidate is expected to direct a competitive, independent, and extramurally funded basic or translational research program.
The faculty member will establish a successful research laboratory within the HCOA consisting of but not limited to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research technicians, and provide training and supervision to these individuals. Will be responsible to supervise, train and evaluate staff, postdocs, and graduate students. The number of employees are dependent on the grant funding.
To provide financial support for the laboratory, he/she will secure funding from NIH and other foundations. The faculty member will also lead or participate in HCOA activities such as Biology of Aging courses and seminars, faculty meetings, recruitment, and interviews, and facilitate center-wide collaborations and strategic planning.
Applicants should have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree with an outstanding publication record and committed to mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
