Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The faculty of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2024. The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

The successful candidate will teach introductory through advanced French language courses, with the possible opportunity to teach content-related courses in culture. The successful candidate will maintain an excellent record of teaching, while actively engaging in various instructional responsibilities with full participation in program affairs and services. They may also be assigned service duties, depending upon the applicant’s experience and departmental needs.
Required Education and Experience
Candidates must have a master’s degree in French, or a related field, in hand by August 15, 2024. Evidence of two years of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level and native or near-native fluency in French and English is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or related field. Willingness to coordinate or direct basic-language courses a plus.
