Job Description

The University of Chattanooga Foundation, Inc. (UC Foundation) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Director of Development, College of Engineering & Computer Science for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, the Director of Development is a dynamic and high-impact role responsible for advancing fundraising in support of the College’s talented students, faculty, and distinctive programs.



The purpose of this position is to build relationships to generate financial support for the College of Engineering and Computer Science through the discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate and foundation donors. The Director will coordinate closely with the Dean and faculty members to broaden the prospect base and address the key fundraising priorities of the university and college. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



Direct, develop, and conduct major gift fundraising efforts for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Collaborate with the dean, faculty members, department heads and volunteers to build their participation in fundraising.
Manage and steward 80-100 major prospects, with minimum annual expectations of 100 donor visits, 20 proposals, and $1,000,000 raised after an introductory period.
Collaborate with the development team and participate in campus-wide fundraising efforts as determined by Advancement leadership.
Coordinate with Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs on projects related to the College of Engineering & Computer Science.
Assist in college-focused special events for fundraising and stewardship purposes, including management of deans’ advisory groups, etc.
Prepare customized presentations, proposals, and prospect briefings.
Other professional duties as needed to assure the efficiency and effectiveness of development operations as assigned by the Vice Chancellor, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor, or Dean.


Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the Director of Development position is required to have:

Bachelor’s degree
5 or more years of experience in fundraising, business development, marketing, or sales
Candidates holding a graduate degree are required to have 3+ years of experience
A high level of motivation, initiative, flexibility, and creativity with ability to focus and prioritize building relationships and soliciting gifts.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated organizational skills.
Ability to use technology proficiently, including skills in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications.
The ability to maintain strict confidentiality of donor and prospect information.


A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. The UC Foundation reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.



Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:

Experience working in higher education or non-profit fundraising
