Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a competent and reliable Senior Manager of Business Operations within the Sections of Endocrinology, IAR (Immunology, Allergy, Rheumatology), Infectious Disease, and Nephrology. This role manages teams in geographically diverse locations across the Texas Medical Center. This individual is responsible for the research and financial well-being of the section through the direction of existing and recruitment of additional faculty, staff, and learners.

This position will have primary duties overseeing research operation activity for the unit. Position will need to demonstrate interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate long term goals to faculty and staff. Ability to interpret financial data and speak to the standing of the section. Ability to provide summary reports to Departmental Leadership.

Job Duties

  • Manages the post-award administration within the sections by serving as the subject-matter expert on all research finances and post-award functions.
  • Manages the daily operation of a large unit including, but not limited to, areas of human resources, compliance and financial management.
  • Manages multiple teams led by managers and supervisors, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and foals, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Oversees financial management and accountability of multiple functions, to include budget administration, performing cost assessments, monitoring financial transactions, and financial reporting. Makes strategic decisions based on the financial data.
  • Develops staffing plans and productivity guidelines according to budget availability and department/unit needs.
  • Manages clinical activities.
  • Develops and implement successful strategies for revenue growth and expense control.
  • Negotiates and implement the human resources activities for the unit/department, including hiring, terminations, salary, and disciplinary actions.
  • Creates strategic partnerships to develop synergy between technology and business practices.
  • Formulates policies and guidelines for unit/department activities.
  • Leads the creation, identification, and analysis of metrics to improve business performance and drive business actions.
  • May oversee or originate pre-award and/or post-award related projects and tasks in support of department faculty members.
  • Works with the Office of Research and subcontracting institution to complete a subcontract. Invoice subcontracting institutions as needed. Assists with monthly financials for grants and awards that includes the monitoring of account balances to avoid over expenditures in award accounts.
  • Completes annual and final progress reports for grants and awards.
  • Creates ad hoc reports and financial projections; approves financial transactions.
  • Supervises financial and/or office support staff and directs their work activities.
  • Staff and faculty recruitment.
  • Directs special projects or programs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Post-award grant management experience.
  • Certified Research Administrator.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel.
