Summary

The lab focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying neural circuit formation in developing the nervous system. The lab will use the mouse retina as a model system to identify the key molecules that mediate cell recognition and proper neural connectivity. Using single cell sequencing and CRISPR/Cas9 technology, the lab has identified several promising candidates and we are currently testing their role in neural connectivity. This position is an outstanding opportunity for career development for recent science graduates interested in biomedical research and/or future advanced degree training in the biomedical sciences or medicine.

Job Duties

  • Performs mouse colony maintenance that includes genotyping and appropriate record keeping.
  • Applies molecular biology, histology, behavioral testing, and cell culture techniques to understand disease mechanisms.
  • Plans, directs, and conducts supervised research experiments.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigator and during lab meetings.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment, orders, and the general lab environment.
  • Learns and becomes proficient with techniques related to retinal dissection, retinal histology, mouse vision testing, and retinal cell culture.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
