The College of Communication, Information, and Media seeks an enthusiastic and driven individual to serve as the inaugural Assistant Director for Student Success and Belonging. The Assistant Director for Student Success and Belonging will be integral to the College of Communication, Information, and Media Student Success Center staff, responsible for helping the Director of Student Success implement programs, relationships, and services designed to support students majoring in the College of Communication, Information, and Media at Ball State and assist in their academic success and career readiness. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the professional trajectories of undergraduate students by fostering strategic partnerships and facilitating internship opportunities across various industries. Job Function:

The College of Communication, Information, and Media seeks an enthusiastic and driven individual to serve as the inaugural Assistant Director for Student Success and Belonging. The Assistant Director for Student Success and Belonging will be integral to the College of Communication, Information, and Media Student Success Center staff, responsible for helping the Director of Student Success implement programs, relationships, and services designed to support students majoring in the College of Communication, Information, and Media at Ball State and assist in their academic success and career readiness. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the professional trajectories of undergraduate students by fostering strategic partnerships and facilitating internship opportunities across various industries. The role will provide frequent direct student contact hours and opportunities for applied professional experience and development.

Minimum Education:

Master's degree in Communications, Higher Education and Student Affairs, Leadership, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience:

At least 3 years of experience in partnership development, teaching, mentoring, internship coordination, or related field. Knowledge of the media industry and trends in internship and professional development programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain strategic partnerships with industry-leading organizations and key stakeholders in communication, information, and media sectors, including corporate settings. Further, the Assistant Director will create a strategic internship plan for the college.
  • Collaborate with the Director to establish and execute a comprehensive partnership strategy aimed at expanding internship opportunities, student success coaching, mentoring programs, and enhancing the overall student experience for CCIM.
  • Assist in coordinating, implementing, and evaluating CCIM Student Success Center project/program activities, including, but not limited to, Jump Start, Super Party, and other career-readiness events.
  • Work closely with the director, faculty (department internship leads), staff, and industry partners to match students with internships based on their skill sets and interests.
  • Co-brand promotional materials, press releases, joint publications, and other relevant communication efforts to increase visibility and recognition of partnerships. Establish and maintain a strong online presence, including website management, to showcase partnerships and engage stakeholders.
  • Oversee the coordination, promotion, and assessment of internship activities, ensuring alignment with the Center's mission and objectives.
  • Facilitate the establishment of regular internships to develop a talent pipeline and provide students with valuable professional experiences.
  • Coordinate non-degree certification programs focused on equipment, software, and inclusive excellence in media to enhance student's skill sets and marketability.
  • Teach sections of the CCIM Student Success Curriculum (CCIM 300 and 400) to equip students with essential career readiness skills.
  • Utilize EAB Navigate and other programs to document student interactions, conduct student outreach, maintain campus resource listings, track task progress, etc.
  • Facilitate the establishment of regular internships to develop a talent pipeline and provide students with valuable professional experiences.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Assist with the preparation of post-program/event reports as well as the Center’s annual report.
  • Assist in the selection, supervision, and training of CCIM Student Success Center Success Student Champions as needed.
