General Information:
The James Madison University College of Business is seeking applicants for two Lecturers in the Department of Computer Information Systems & Business Analytics (CIS & Business Analytics) beginning Fall 2025. Each position is a renewable term appointment (RTA). The teaching load for these positions is 12 credit hours per semester (4/4). These are full-time benefits-eligible, non-tenure track appointments.
The Department of CIS & BSAN is an academic unit of the College of Business and has 25 full-time faculty members, over 600 CIS majors in 3 concentrations (IS, Business Analytics, and Information and Cybersecurity Management), 80 CIS minors, and over 40 BSAN minors and growing. In addition, the department supports the college by providing core business classes in information systems, quantitative methods, business statistics, and operations management. The department places a primary emphasis on its undergraduate programs that include hands-on projects, laboratory exercises, case analyses, and engaging classroom experiences designed to prepare graduates to work independently and in team-oriented environments. The CIS program is accredited by ABET, making the department one of only 10 CIS programs in the nation accredited by both the AACSB and ABET.
The AACSB-accredited College of Business includes nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. The college includes the Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for Professional Selling, Small Business Development Center, Capital Markets Lab, Madison Consulting, and other programs focused on outreach and engagement with the business community. The college has approximately 4,300 students in its AACSB programs and is highly regarded across the JMU campus community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
These positions have primary teaching responsibilities in the CIS curriculum and must be able to teach in at least two of these concentrations: information systems, information and cybersecurity management, and business analytics. Potential courses include database management, systems analysis and design, AI for business, networking, cybersecurity management, business intelligence, project management, and business analytics.
In addition to teaching responsibilities and office hours, the successful candidate will be expected to perform service activities such as serving on departmental committees, advising student organizations, and attending university meetings, as well as maintaining professional qualifications according to AACSB standards. Maintaining professional qualifications can be accomplished through a variety of avenues including, but not limited to, continuing education and certifications, consulting, serving on boards, recognized professional expertise in the teaching discipline, publications, and university administrative duties. These requirements can be met in several ways, providing the candidate the ability to contribute based upon their strengths, abilities, and interests. It is anticipated that in order to meet these obligations, the successful candidate will need to be available for potential on-campus activities during multiple days throughout the week.
The department fosters a collegial and collaborative team environment that supports student success and faculty development and growth.
Qualifications:
Minimum/Required: A master’s degree in information systems, computer information systems, or a closely related field, from an AACSB-accredited business program is required by date of appointment. Candidates must have significant and substantive non-academic work experience within the past five years relevant to the teaching assignment. Preferred: A strong foundation in business applications is desired. The ideal candidate will demonstrate through professional activities a commitment and ability to contribute to experiential and intellectual diversity and inclusion within the department.
The CIS & Business Analytics Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, professional qualifications, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the JMU academic community.
