Job Description
The Department of Mathematics at Boise State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Statistics starting in the fall semester of 2025. This search is open to all areas of Statistics, Biostatistics, and closely related fields.
Preference will be given to applicants whose research focuses on statistics with the computational sciences, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, but applicants from all other areas of statistics will also receive full consideration.
Due to the intrinsic impact of these topics, the new hire is expected to have a strong knowledge of computational statistics and interests in applications to many disciplines of engineering, such as aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer science, electrical, and environmental science.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong record of or demonstrated potential for research and teaching excellence
Well-articulated plan of contributing to our programs that increase the success of students and faculty in the department and the university
Strong desire to broaden the department's outreach activities, including a proposed mathematical and statistical consulting center
Our Expectations:
The successful candidate will join our team to make all contributions to successfully achieve our department's and university's missions. Specifically, successful candidates are expected to:
Pursue an innovative research program involving interdisciplinary collaborations within and beyond the university
Submit competitive proposals to secure external funding involving students
Supervise master's students in Mathematics with Statistics emphasis and Ph.D. students in Computing with Data Science emphasis
Mentor undergraduate students for their senior projects and research activities
Teach a broad range of courses in statistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Develop statistics courses and Master's and Bachelor's statistics degrees
Develop modern teaching methodologies, adopt evidence-based instructional practices, and deliver online and remote teaching
Engage in statistical consulting service to the university, local business, and state and federal agencies
