Job Description

We seek faculty candidates with a master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Biostatistics, Health Education or other related discipline with good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially. Successful candidates should have experience in teaching public health courses to students with a range of aptitude. Familiarity with Canvas or another Learning Management System is desirable. Responsibilities include teaching courses for our CEPH-accredited Standalone Baccalaureate Public Health BS/BA program and teaching undergraduate students from other majors in our courses that are part of the university core curriculum. Candidates with appropriate credentials may also teach in our MS Health Science specialization in Biostatistics and Epidemiology in future semesters. Faculty may also contribute to a Health Data Analytics concentration within the BS in Data Science in the College of Science and Humanities. Other duties may include service to the university, community, and profession.

Lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one’s lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department's, college's, and university's lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities.
Rank will be at the Assistant or Associate Lecturer level. For candidates who hold a doctorate in a related area, appointment can be considered at the Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor rank. Faculty are expected to work on campus to engage with students, colleagues, and community.

Minimum Experience:

  1. Master’s Degree or doctorate in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Education or other related discipline from an accredited institution.
  2. At least one year of successful on-campus or online teaching experience at the university level among students with a range of aptitudes.
  3. Effective written communication skills.
  4. Effective oral communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

  1. More than 1 year of successful campus or online university teaching experience
  2. Experience with Canvas or other Learning Management System.
  3. More than 1 year of professional health-related experience
  4. Doctorate in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Health Education, Biostatistics or other Public Health-related discipline.
