What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Cyber Security & Mission Computing Center (9300) is looking for an innovative and dedicated individual to lead and manage the Cyber Security Group, Organization 9310. The 9310 Senior Manager is responsible for the protection and defense of Sandia’s cyber infrastructure, its information and the information of Sandia’s partners. It is a fast-paced, highly agile and extraordinarily stimulating environment that requires an individual who is challenged by some of this country’s hardest cyber problems. The senior manager will be expected to protect and defend locally while maintaining and growing Sandia’s reputation as a leader in cyber security at the National level. The senior manager also serves as the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), representing the 9300 Director/CISO in various internal and external venues.

Group 9310 includes four line departments, spanning foundational Cyber Assurance functions to daily active defense to longer-term research and development. Additional elements of the Program are performed in performed by Center 8700 (active defense and Cyber R&D0, 9370 (Cyber and Software Assessments and Cyber R&D) and 9360 (Cyber OT R&D). While geographically and organizationally split, all elements function as one integrated Program. This position requires a collaborative individual who can build trust and partnerships with many key stakeholders, both external (NNSA, SFO, DOE, DOE/IN, etc.) and internal (mission enabling organizations, mission delivery organizations, LD/DLD, SLT, etc.). The senior manager leads a diverse team of approximately 70 staff members, which includes Information/Cyber Assurance and Cyber R&D roles. Direct reports include four managers as well as the Information Security Site Manager (ISSM) and Alternate ISSMs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Engage with cyber and mission teams across Sandia NM and CA, particularly within Divisions 1000, 2000, 5000, 6000, 8000, 9000 and 10000
  • Partner internally, exploring opportunities to grow the Center’s impact
  • With the rapid evolution of cybersecurity capabilities, develop a vision and execute a strategy that continues to keep Sandia ahead of our adversaries will be critical to the success of the organization
  • Develop and execute staffing, portfolio management, and talent management plans that retain, attract, and reward a highly capable workforce

This position will require periodic travel based on program needs.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$184,400 - $313,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus 10 years of experience; or equivalent (MS + 6 years, AS + 14 years, or no degree + 18 years)
  • Included in the experience above:
  • 3 or more years’ experience leading or managing cybersecurity or related teams.
  • An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test

Qualifications We Desire:

  • A minimum of five years of demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships, internal and external to Sandia, including building new relationships
  • Innovative, creative thinking
  • Understanding of managing and balancing risk, including cost/benefit analysis; ability to identify and separate perceived versus real requirements
  • Experience/background in cybersecurity and/or IT, including a subset of software, hardware, and network security
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on numerous time-critical responsibilities that continually vie for priority
  • Strong relationships with NNSA/SFO/DOE/IN/OGA/Labs partners
  • Experience and relationships with key cybersecurity and IT functions at Sandia
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in communicating with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a vision/strategy and execute a plan to achieve organizational goals
  • Familiarity with Sandia’s R&D enterprise and S&E environment and capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish an inclusive culture, built on trust and open communication

About Our Team:

Sandia’s Cyber Security Program is responsible for the protection of Sandia’s electronic information while enabling mission work. Our Cyber Security responsibilities include technology research and development of next generation cyber systems and technologies; including but not limited to areas such as encryption, authentication and authorization methodologies, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, forensics, reverse engineering incident response, and remediation. Further, we conduct data acquisition in support of the corporate electronic discovery requirements related to litigation and investigation of waste, fraud and abuse. Sandia prides itself on providing cyber security leadership across the NNSA and DOE complex.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
