Job Summary
The MCG Wellstar Kennestone Campus is based in the Wellstar Health System. The Campus Assistant Dean for Curriculum for the Wellstar Kennestone Campus will be MCG's administrative presence on the Campus. The Campus Assistant dean will report directly to the Associate Dean for Curriculum. The Campus Assistant Dean will have administrative reporting responsibilities to the MCG Associate Dean for Regional Campus Coordination, who reports to the MCG Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Assume primary responsibility for locally administrating a geographically-separated clinical campus that complies with all LCME expectations
- Academic administrative oversight responsibility for MCG medical students at the Wellstar Kennestone Campus, including all clinical teaching sites and teaching faculty in the Wellstar Health System. Medical education program administration will be the primary responsibility, but this individual will also serve as regional coordinator and liaison for student affairs, student research, and voluntary faculty continuous professional development (CPD).
- Work with the Associate Dean for Curriculum and the Associate Dean for Regional Campus Coordination to develop, implement, and assess all clinical teaching experiences for MCG medical students at sites in NW Georgia. This individual will be responsible for the assessing and continuously improving quality of the educational experiences at all Wellstar Health System teaching sites, based primarily on student evaluations and faculty feedback.
- Additional responsibilities include:
- Work with MCG, the Georgia AHEC, and hospital affiliates to maintain on-going medical staff CPD in education skills for the voluntary clinical faculty members, including the annual Jekyll Island MCG Faculty Development Conference
- Liaise with appropriate individuals at MCG to coordinate and oversee all aspects of the students, educational experience in region, and coordinate programming when appropriate with other regional and 4-year MCG campuses.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Curriculum, Associate Dean for Regional Campus Coordination, Senior Associate Dean for Evaluation, Accreditation and CQI, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and MCG Curriculum Oversight Committee to develop, implement, and evaluate & assess high quality clinical learning experiences
- Interact closely with MCG students while they are on rotations in the Wellstar Kennestone Health System. This includes meeting with each student and providing (or ensuring they receive) feedback on their performance, ensuring timely accurate completion of all evaluations, ensuring students' compliance with meeting the learning objectives & expectations of the rotations (e.g., electronic tracking of experiences, completing evaluations), and ensuring delivery of core curriculum content. This activity is closely coordinated with the site Clerkship Directors from each of the MCG clerkship departments
- Develop and implement student support services that are commensurate with the MCG parent campus for advising, counseling, and health care
- Engage in educational scholarship related to development, implementation, and assessment of innovative educational programs
- Travel to MCG in Augusta as frequently as needed, generally at least bi-monthly to attend scheduled meetings, including in-person or WebEx participation in the monthly Curriculum Oversight Committee and Dean's staff meetings
- Report annually on regional campus program progress, including operating costs and staffing support required, to assist the OAA in developing its annual operating budget
- Participate in the AAMC Group on Regional Medical Campuses (GRMC) activities, and in other medical education professional development meetings of the AAMC SGEA, etc..
Required Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O.; Ed.D. or Ph.D. terminal degree
- Academic qualifications necessary for an MCG faculty appointment
- Personal commitment to educational excellence
- Enthusiasm to serve as a faculty role model as demonstrated by teaching and mentoring medical students, engaging in faculty development, and serving as an educational administrator
- At least 5 years of experience in academic program administration at an LCME-accredited medical school; candidates with curriculum and/or program development experience preferred
- Willingness and capacity to travel to site visit Wellstar Health System teaching sites at an average 2 days/week, and to travel to MCG at least bi-monthly.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
