Admissions Counselor

Summary
Responsible for office-wide recruitment, outreach and territory management for assigned geographic territory in alignment with strategic enrollment and recruitment goals. Responsible for the development and execution of an enrollment and recruitment plan which, in some instances, is tailored to the specific territory demographic. Assist with daily visitors in the role of 'Counselor of the Day', delivering presentations and being responsive to student ambassador needs. Participate and assist in coordinating recruitment and yield activities, including the tele-recruiting center, receptions, high school visits, community college visits, community-based organization visits, college fairs, application evaluation, and communication initiatives (email, text, phone, social media).
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
  • Execute office-wide recruitment efforts for assigned geographic territory. Represent SMC at college fairs, transfer fairs, community colleges, community-based organizations, and high schools, communicating with prospective students and parents, and high school/community college counselors. Schedule, confirm, and notify prospective students of visits, visiting 4-5 schools per day throughout the Fall recruitment period of September-November, and the Spring recruitment period of February-May.
  • Participate in the visitor experience by delivering presentations, conducting information sessions, interviews, admit on the spot appointments, meet & greet appointments, application evaluations, special group presentations, and ‘Counselor of the Day' activities.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of a strategic plan for student recruitment and enrollment in accordance with SMC goals; ongoing strategic plan assessment required. Manage assigned geographic territory, which includes coordination and implementation of outreach and yield activities. Plan on-campus and regional events for prospective and admitted students.
  • Compile, analyze, and report data for territory. Report on any trends within territory. Report regularly on admissions funnel for territory and recruitment/yield activities throughout the funnel.
  • Read and evaluate applications for geographic territory. Assist in holistic application review and follow-up for application completion. Recommend admission decision to the Dean of Admissions.
  • Maintain continuous contact with prospective and admitted students via email, phone, and office visits. Maintain responsive communication protocols including prompt response to inquiries. Tele-recruit to move students through the admissions funnel, including communications to applicants, admitted students, and deposited students.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required. Experience in admissions, higher education, event management, or related fields preferred.
  • Bilingual speaker preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals at all societal levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with prospective students, families, faculty, staff and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using CRM systems, preferably experience with Slate or similar platforms.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, interpret, and leverage data to drive decision-making.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Computer skills in the use of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, internet and electronic email, preferably Google Suite.
  • Strong presentation skills to persuasively communicate/connect with target audiences and represent academic programs in a positive manner.
  • Sensitivity and understanding of individual prospective student and family needs.
  • The ability to professionally represent SMC is of great importance.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including early morning, evening and weekends is necessary and expected.
