Job Summary
This position will be responsible for managing the operation and inventory of several scientific academic laboratories which involves lifting of objects up to 101bs or more.
This position will provide leadership in maintenance and growth of shared analytical laboratories and teach at an undergraduate course level focused in biology. The position will develop, administer, collaborate and coordinate laboratory activities including training graduate students, quality assurance and safe laboratory practices.
Essential Job Duties
Oversee the daily operation of laboratory spaces, ensuring all labs are adequately prepared for scheduled experiments, classes, and research.
Coordinate the setup and breakdown of laboratory experiments, ensuring equipment and materials are in place and functioning properly.
Maintain accurate records of lab inventory, ordering supplies, and managing equipment maintenance and calibration.
Ensure all lab materials, chemicals, and reagents are safely stored and disposed of in compliance with safety regulations.
Work with faculty to prepare course-based undergraduate research experiences.
Enforce laboratory safety protocols and ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines, including chemical, biological, and equipment safety.
Conduct safety training for students and faculty on lab protocols, emergency procedures, and proper use of equipment.
Monitor lab safety and cleanliness, ensuring the lab environment is organized, clean, and free of hazards.
Provide technical assistance to faculty and students during laboratory exercises and research activities.
Troubleshoot and repair lab equipment and instruments as needed or arrange for repairs through external service providers.
Assist in the development and improvement of lab procedures, ensuring they align with current scientific standards and academic goals.
Manage lab budgets, track expenditures, and make recommendations for resource allocation
Ensure that all laboratory resources are used efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher preferred in related fields, e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Animal Science, etc.
2-5 years of experience in laboratory management, research, and/or technical support in a relevant field.
Physical Demands
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to walk short distances
Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
Ability to view a computer terminal
