What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to assemble, maintain and operate laboratory high voltage pulsed power systems and pulsed power component research and development experiments.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Operate pulsed power systems such as; Marx generators and high voltage component test stands.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain pulsed power systems.
  • Configure diagnostics and data acquisition systems for use with pulsed power component and system test.
  • Review and update safety and operating procedure documents.

The work outlined above will be conducted in pulsed-power laboratory environments and will involve a variety of hazards including high voltage, high current, high-energy capacitors, vacuum systems and handling large equipment.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$72,800 - $140,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associate degree or high school graduate and four years of directly related experience
  • Experience with the general maintenance and refurbishing of mechanical, pressure, vacuum and/or electrical systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with pulsed power systems
  • Familiarity with Environment Safety and Health (ES&H) safe work practices, including developing and implementing safe work procedures
  • Experience maintaining and operating data acquisition systems, including familiarity with oscilloscopes and TDR measurements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pressure system installation and safety practices
  • Demonstrated successful teamwork, excellent communication skills, and consistent demonstration of good behaviors
  • Demonstrated leadership experience

About Our Team:

Department 1656, part of the Pulsed Power Science and Technology group (1650), is dedicated to advancing the capabilities of the Z-machine and future high-energy density machines. We lead the development of advanced pulsed power energy storage and switching technologies. Our focus includes pioneering research in advanced Marx technology, new capacitor assessments, and innovative gas switch advancements. By collaborating closely with sister departments in 1650, we aim to rapidly advance the state of the art in pulsed power, addressing the ZX Initiative and preparing for the design of next-generation pulsed power machines. We led design of the injector for the cutting-edge Scorpius flash x-ray radiography system and continue overseeing assembly and commissioning. The Injector final assembly and commissioning will occur at the North Las Vegas facility before being installed underground at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
