Summary

The Laboratory of Jeff Magee in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist. The applicant will join a well-funded lab to engage in basic and translational neuroscience research. The laboratory uses in-vivo and in-vitro recording techniques including 2-photon imaging, whole-cell recording, optogenetic, molecular and theoretical approaches to better understand the plasticity mechanisms involved in memory formation and stabilization. Position to run from 07-2025 to 07-2029

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publishes results in research journals.
  • Trains and supervises research staff and trainees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research experience and publication record (published, peer-reviewed first-author publications) in neuroscience.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: optical engineering, multi-photon imaging, software development, hippocampal function, learning and memory.
  • Excellent written/oral communication in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
  • Basic data science skills including the statistical analysis of large data sets.
  • Prior experience in one or more of these techniques: mouse survival surgery, two-photon microscopy and analysis, patch-clamp recording, single-cell electroporation, software development, optogenetic techniques, mouse behavior.
  • Coding skills (Python, Matlab, R).
