Job Description
Summary
The lab is seeking an exceptional, creative, and team-oriented technician to join a vibrant group of Microbiologists seeking to understand the therapeutic potential of natural or evolved bacterial viruses (bacteriophage) to teat multi-antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. The technician will join the recent Baylor College of Medicine established Center termed TAILOR Labs whose objective is to study the molecular and clinical properties of phage to advance the knowledge of phage therapy and phage Biology. The long-term goal of this position is to transition the technician into industry with a start-up stage biotech company formed off technologies and products developed as a result of this research. The technician should be familiar with basic Microbiology and Molecular Biology with strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and willing to take instruction. This is a chance to join a vibrant and creative team at a leading medical school in the largest medical center with expansion into the new biotech hub (Helix Park) aiming to address one of society's most pressing medical problems.
Job Duties
- Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes data
- Documents result of experiments.
- Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research.
- Molecular work associated with bacteriology, phage discovery and purification, and library maintenance.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Maintains a detailed lab notebook and uses Benchling for electronic notes.
- Meets regularly with the PI, team members in lab meetings and weekly group breakouts.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Has bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Has experience or is familiar with Microbiology and Molecular biology.
- Be highly motivated individual willing to learn new scientific techniques and grow in a research environment with biotech potential.
- Has strong passion for teamwork.
