Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for an adjunct position for the MFA in Dance: Creative Practice. We seek candidates with expertise in dance and creative practice.
The MFA in Dance Program is looking for an adjunct faculty member to teach
DANCE-510 Lighting I in January 2026. January 5th to January 16th, 4:40-6:30pm every day (including Saturday and Sunday). Asynchronous (non-assigned) hours January 20th to January 30th.
Adjunct Professor in MFA in Dance: Creative Practice
Position Description:
The MFA in Dance is looking to hire an instructor for the Lighting I course during the January term. This course is a two unit course which introduces many students to lighting as used in a theater setting, specifically as it applies to dance. The students will be introduced to light lab, and other elements through hands-on instruction.
Course Description: Hands on training in technical and stage skills related to lighting design. The focus of this course will be on lighting basics, and specifics as it relates to lighting a dance piece for a theater show. Students will learn the knowledge they need to work with a lighting designer in the future, and to start on their journey to light their own pieces.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have an MA, MFA or other terminal degree in the appropriate field or equivalent knowledge and experience in the field of dance, design or production for stage or dance. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered teaching in the liberal arts tradition, and show evidence of teaching effectiveness among graduate students. Prior teaching experience and/or professional experience is preferred.
Instructors must be available to teach the course in person from January 5 to January 16, and asynchronously January 20 to January 30. Applicants must reside in California.
Salary: $4,965-$6,872 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
