Position Overview:



The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a joint appointment in the Department of Communication, Journalism, and Film and the Department of Public Health. We seek an outstanding teacher-scholar whose research and teaching expertise centers on health communication. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship and pedagogy while serving students across multiple academic programs.


The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in health communication in both departments, while developing and delivering innovative curriculum that bridges theory and practice. They will also mentor undergraduate and graduate students in professional development and research, and contribute to both departmental programs and interdisciplinary initiatives. In their research role, the faculty member will conduct original research in health communication with social impact and public health implications, publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate venues, present research findings at professional conferences, and collaborate with colleagues across disciplines. Service expectations include participating in departmental, school, and college level service activities (including support for accreditation processes), contributing to professional organizations and the broader academic community, and engaging in community outreach and partnership activities as appropriate.


Qualifications:

Required:


Have a Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a closely related field by the time of appointment. ABD candidates will be considered but must complete all degree requirements before starting the position.

Demonstrate expertise in health communication research.

Show evidence of scholarly potential through publications, conference presentations, or dissertation research.

Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Demonstrate cultural competency and ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.




Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

Evidence of seeking and/or securing funding for research.

Professional experience in health communication and public health.
