Tax Compliance Manager
Job Description
The Controller’s Office at Baylor University is seeking an experienced and motivated Tax Compliance Manager to join our team. In this key role, you will serve as a lead contact and subject matter expert for all federal, state, and local tax compliance matters - ensuring accuracy, mitigating risk, and optimizing tax strategies across the institution.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, legal or a related field, three years of relevant experience, particularly in tax matters, and a CPA license are required. A master's degree in taxation or a J.D. and five years of relevant experience is preferred.

Confidence communicating with a wide range of campus populations including students, faculty, and staff
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
Serve as a key contact and subject matter expert for all federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements
Prepare and file University tax returns, including Forms 990 and 990-T, state UBI returns, excise tax returns, sales tax filings, and other required submissions
Coordinate the collection of necessary information from multiple University stakeholders
Ensure all filing and reporting deadlines are met and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with external regulations
Stay current on tax-exempt organization requirements, conduct tax research, and translate findings into actionable guidance for University stakeholders
Respond promptly to federal and state tax notices and work directly with taxing authorities to ensure timely and accurate resolution
Coordinate with stakeholders and campus departments to ensure tax filing obligations are met across all states where the University has activities that may create nexus
Collaborate with University departments to determine the taxability of employee benefits and ensure compliance with federal regulations
Oversee and review all state sales tax returns to ensure timely and accurate submission
Manage unclaimed property filings and compliance across all applicable states
Provide proactive, practical tax guidance to minimize compliance risk
Respond to inquiries from campus partners with clear, timely, and helpful advice on tax-related matters
Monitor changes in tax laws and communicate potential impacts to management
Develop and update training materials to keep stakeholders informed of key tax compliance requirements
Maintain and update the University’s tax manual, providing guidance to campus users on typical tax matters affecting a research university
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
Have the ability to comply with University policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
