What Your Job Will Be Like:
Organization 7622, High Integrity Systems, is seeking a driven and results-oriented R&D Electrical Engineer to join their dynamic and tightly integrated team of hardware, firmware, and software engineers delivering secure embedded systems for both SPP and ND customers. These systems frequently must be designed to meet exacting security, performance, and reliability specifications and often require certification by outside agencies like the NSA or FSET. In this position, the selected candidate will be responsible for the architecture, design, test, and certification of complex digital and mixed-signal systems, including high-rigor printed circuit board design and FPGA/microprocessor-based hardware design, for a variety of National Security Programs. Applications include military GPS, cryptography, and other high consequence applications.
On any given day, one may be called upon to:
- Work with an Agile team to develop secure embedded systems
- Work with Systems Engineers and our customers to define and clarify requirements
- Architect digital and mixed analog/digital systems consisting of custom rigid and rigid-flex printed circuit boards
- Characterize custom hardware for high-rigor designs and environments
- Partner with outside organizations to lead the development of new knowledge areas in printed circuit engineering
- Develop and contribute to security design and documentation
Travel to partner and customer locations as required (generally 3-6 times per year)
Applicants chosen for an interview will be asked to provide an overview briefing of an example that illustrates relevant design experience.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Demonstrated experience designing and realizing custom printed circuit boards, including rigid and rigid-flex, for high-consequence applications
- Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC/TEMPEST design and mitigation, along with experience testing realized product for conformance
- Demonstrated experience in signal and power integrity simulation and engineering, along with transmission line analysis
- Experience characterizing, testing, and troubleshooting embedded systems
- Knowledge of configuration management systems (GitLab, SVN, etc.)
- An active DOE Q-level security clearance, or other equivalent active security clearance such as DoD Top Secret
