Research Technician II
Job Description
Summary
Research Technician II responsible for large batch production of petri dishes, sterile tissue culture media, buffers, and reagents for the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology. The technician will ensure that the preparations are sterile (Pathogen-Free), assigned a lot number, dated, and electronically stored. Each reagent will require a printed label providing item description, lot number, safety instructions, and date.
Job Duties
- Stock reagents, order supplies, chemicals, and glassware used for laboratory analysis.
- Responsible for properly preparing and ensuring these solutions are sterile and available as needed.
- Document all chemical preparations ensuring a lot number is assigned and quality control is achieved.
- Provide departmental safety training to new employees for use of departmental autoclaves.
- Follow a set recipe protocol for the all the solutions they prepare. For example, weigh items accurately on a scale and add the appropriate amount of chemistry to the solutions being prepared.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualified candidate must be able to demonstrate a relevant scientific background which includes a marked proficiency in chemical preparations.
