Summary
The Department of Medicine is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable Medical Assistant II to be a part of the Sugar Land Medicine multi-specialty group to support our clinicians providing services to patients. As an MA II, you will contribute to a patient-centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first.
The MA II will perform routine patient care (i.e. rooming/vitals) and procedure scheduling for Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Pulmonology providers in addition to administrative duties. This position will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. Shifts will be 8:00-5:00 Monday-Friday, with a one hour lunch break.
This position is located in Sugar Land and offers free parking. We provide scrubs.
Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities, including rooming and vital signs.
- Notes the primary complaint/reason for visit.
- Collects patient histories and enters medications into medical record.
- Maintains patient and services rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include scanning patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information, and completing forms/requisitions as needed.
- Collaborates with specialty providers to support diagnostic and therapeutic procedures specific to gastroenterology (e.g., hemorrhoid banding), cardiology (e.g., EKG monitoring), and pulmonology (e.g., spirometry).
- Reviews patients’ medications list and identifies any medications which require attention or medications need to be stopped before procedure.
- Refills medications and performs prior authorizations per protocol.
- Contacts and responds to patients via MyChart and/or telephone.
- Utilizes Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams to communicate with physicians and staff.
- Performs front desk duties as needed.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient’s electronic medical record (EPIC).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Experience related to Cardiology, Gastroenterology and/or Pulmonology or willingness to learn these three specialties.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications computers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent patient/customer service skills with the ability to problem-solve and de-escalate situations as needed.
- Ability to take initiative.
