Position Information:
South Dakota Mines invites applications for the Deputy Director AMP. This is a regular, part-time, benefited position at 75% effort. The AMP Laboratory has a history of conducting both basic and applied research in the area of advanced materials processing and joining. AMP is home to a host of advanced materials processing equipment including friction stir welding, cold spray technology, physical vapor deposition, and laser powder directed energy deposition.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
supporting research administration activities to help grow the AMP laboratory;
growing the industrial research portfolio of the AMP laboratory;
managing research project deliverables, including fiscal management;
standardizing laboratory safety and manufacturing practices;
designing and executing experimental research;
advising student researchers and mentoring research staff;
disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific conference presentations; and
contributing to the identification and preparation of funding proposals.

Required Qualifications:
BS, MS, or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or closely related field.
15 years of industrial experience in metallurgical or advanced manufacturing industries.
