Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Established in 1891, Elizabeth City State University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina. The University currently offers 27 undergraduate and 4 graduate programs of study in fields such as aviation and natural sciences, business administration, accounting, sport management, teaching and, visual and performing arts, mathematics and computer science, social sciences and other select professional and pre-professional areas. Known for its small class sizes and student-centered approach to educating undergraduates the University is located on the beautiful northeastern coast of North Carolina in the Historic town of Elizabeth City.
The Division of Academic Affairs provides leadership in developing and maintaining quality academic programs and support services that contribute to the achievement of the university’s mission. The division strives to be recognized as a student-centered university with emphasis on excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarly activities; commitment to total student development; and outstanding service and engagement with local, regional, national and global communities.
Description of Work
The Department of Business, Accounting and Sport Management at Elizabeth City State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty member (Assistant or Associate) in Management. The successful candidate will develop and deliver courses for traditional and virtual classrooms for undergraduate students in the Department. The Department is accredited by AACSB International, and the candidate is expected to meet the initial and sustaining qualifications as Scholarly Academic (SA) or Practicing Academic (PA). The successful applicant will be a dedicated teacher, active scholar, an effective advisor for students with varied background, preparation, and career goals.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
A Ph.D. from an accredited academic institution is required in one of the following fields: Management/ Business Administration with an emphasis in management; or a Ph.D. from an accredited academic institution in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in areas of principles of management, entrepreneurship, leadership and teamwork, organizational behavior, and ethics. ABD doctoral candidates will be considered if the defense of the dissertation is expected to be completed before the start date of employment. Experiences in teaching principles of management, entrepreneurship, leadership and teamwork, organizational behavior, and ethics preferred. Publications in scholarly journals ranked by ABDC or Cabell’s International in the discipline preferred.
Ability to teach in other related areas of business-like strategic management, and business research will be a plus.
Demonstrate effective communication skills.
Possess the ability to write grants and/or conduct and publish research.
Possess a commitment to collegiality when interacting with others in a diverse work environment.
Possess an enthusiasm for mentoring undergraduate students.
Possess a commitment to research and innovative problem-based teaching and experiential learning.
