Job Description
The Statistician Lead provides advanced statistical support for research studies and data analysis by collecting, compiling, managing, and analyzing statistical data; performing complex statistical analyses across a broad range of research studies; reviewing programs developed by other statisticians; and verifying statistical outputs and results to ensure accuracy, reliability, and meaningful interpretation. This position supports high-quality data collection and analysis efforts by applying appropriate statistical methodologies, explaining complex statistical concepts and procedures in interim and final project reports, writing and reviewing statistical analysis and outcome sections of study reports and submissions, assessing the feasibility of analysis requests and related timelines, and evaluating research studies to recommend appropriate statistical techniques and procedures. The Statistician Lead may also provide guidance and leadership to team members and serve as a resource for statistical consultation. Success in this role requires extensive knowledge of statistical principles and methods, strong database management and analytical skills, the ability to organize, interpret, and communicate complex data effectively, leadership capabilities, and the ability to research, evaluate, and apply emerging statistical methodologies and best practices.

Promotes high-quality data management, analysis, and reporting practices.
Provides guidance and mentorship to statistical staff and supports the successful completion of research initiatives.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Collects, compiles, and analyzes statistical data.
Performs complex statistical analyses for a broad spectrum of data and studies.
Reviews programs written by other statisticians and verifies statistical output and results.
Oversees programming and database handling to assure high quality data collection.
Explains complex statistical concepts and procedures written interim and final project reports.
Writes and reviews statistical and outcome sections of study reports and submissions.
Assesses feasibility of analysis requests and associated timelines.
Evaluates research studies and recommends statistical procedures.
Delegates and verifies work of junior statisticians. Helps new statisticians get familiar with procedures and programming environment. Tutors students in statistics as requested by department.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct complex statistical analyses for diverse research projects and datasets to generate valid, interpretable findings.
Assess study aims, analytic needs, and project scope to determine appropriate methods, feasibility, and expected turnaround times.
Develop and refine datasets by gathering, organizing, and evaluating data from multiple sources for research use.
Audit code, statistical models, and results produced by other statisticians to confirm accuracy, consistency, and methodological soundness.
Lead data programming and database processes to strengthen data integrity, quality control, and research reporting standards.
Draft and edit statistical content for reports, submissions, and research documents, including interpretation of analytic findings.
Translate statistical methods and results for faculty, researchers, and staff practical terms.
Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred
A master's degree in mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, public health, or another related quantitative field is acceptable.
Related experience includes applied statistics, biostatistics, research data analysis, statistical programming, database management, study design, statistical reporting, and supervision or mentorship of statisticians or analysts.
Six years of related experience is required, and experience cannot substitute for the required degree.
The ideal candidate will have advanced skills in statistical analysis, data management, database handling, statistical programming, and the ability to organize, analyze, and report complex data.
Strong communication, leadership, collaboration, research, problem-solving, and mentoring skills are preferred.
