What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 05475, Missile Systems, is seeking a Electromechanical Technologist in support of Missile and Strike Systems Research and Development Activities related to Missile Systems. The selected candidate will conduct flight test vehicle assembly and integration, payload experiment integration, component and integrated testing, and other test activities related to flight test. They will also support fielding and flight test operations directly providing vehicles servicing a wide array of complex and cutting-edge experiments and technologies.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Support rocket motor, ordnance, and integrated missile systems design and flight test operations.
  • Perform fabrication oversight and assembly/integration of flight hardware
  • Conduct testing and characterization of individual components and integrated flight systems
  • Conduct assembly and test operations supporting flight test vehicle development
  • Operate within a dynamic, team-focused environment, including multidisciplinary tasks.
  • Travel to support program interactions, system integration activities, and flight testing at remote test facilities.
  • Support execution of qualification testing, including scheduling, preparation, assembly, execution, and/or reporting.
  • Maintain component testers, preferably both hardware and software.
  • Maintain lab space, including small parts inventory, component inventory, and safety/compliance.
  • Support field testing, both on and off site, including ground and air test events, as well as overnight test events.
  • Procure hardware as needed/directed.
  • Design and fabricate custom test fixtures.
  • Create and interpret equipment usage procedures and connection diagrams.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot optical, RF, and electrical systems in laboratory and field environments.
  • Participate in mission planning, logistics coordination, and field site preparation.
  • Conduct hands-on, time-sensitive work in a self-directed manner.
  • Travel will be required 10%-25%

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Test Equipment setup, operation and evaluation
  • Experience with Computer & Electronic Systems Operation, Evaluation, and test
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with Mechanical Ground Support Systems certifications, assembly, and use
  • Mechanical Flight Hardware Inspection, Assembly, Integration, and Flight test experience
  • Electrical or mechanical engineering with hands-on experience
  • Fabrication of custom cables
  • Soldering (Desired: IPC Class 3 qualified)
  • Mechanical CAD capable in SolidWorks or Creo
  • Python/Matlab competency to support data logging, analysis activities, and visualization of technical results
  • Electrical and RF measurement equipment experience (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, multi-meter)
  • Thrust Vector Systems Experience
  • Attitude Control Systems Experience
  • Hydraulic and Electromechanical System Experience
  • Crane & Rigging and Fork Lift certification and experience

About Our Team:

Org 5475 Missile Systems specializes in the design, assembly, integration and flight testing of end-to-end rocket and payload systems, with a particular focus on Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical AI&T support, and Ordnance and Propulsive Systems. Missile Systems focuses on flight vehicle design and payload integration to support a variety of DOE, DoD, and other mission partner flight test needs, including fielding emplacement and flight testing at multiple Sandia and partner sites across the nation, and also oversees the Solid Rocket Motor inventory that Sandia maintains to support it¿s ongoing flight test. Missile Systems is also available to support mechanical and ordnance design, integration and test activities for a variety of partner organizations across the labs.
